On the Road: Sihanoukville

Cambodia isn't just about temples and tombs it has exquisitely pristine beaches as well. Sihanoukville or also known as Kampong Saom is a port city 4-hours away from Phnom Penh. We took advantage of the 3-day holiday in celebration of King Sihamoni's birthday (May 13-15), and headed southwest to Sihanoukville.

If you've ever been to Boracay (or click here to view my post on it), imagine 5 Boracay-like beach strips all in one city! If you're looking to party or just relax and chill, Sihanuokville has a range of beaches to choose from; from the popular, Occheuteal Beach, to the less commercial, Otres beach, you'll definitely find your own version of paradise whilst there.

On the way to Sihnoukville the locals often take a pit-stop here and say a little prayer for the long drive.

Khmer-style travel.

Welcome to Occheuteal Beach!

Occheuteal Beach and Serendipity Beach is probably the longest and most commercial out of all the beach strips. It offers a wide selection of restaurants and night-time party spots to choose from.

Fireworks by the beach; how awesome is that?

On our second day in Sihanouville we decided to drive around the city. This lake is located near Sokha Beach just west of Serendipity Beach. It is privately owned by Sokha Beach Hotel, the first ever 5-star luxury beach hotel in Cambodia.

Driving a bit further we found ourselves in Indepedence Beach which was named after the old Independence Hotel. The Independence Hotel was built in 1960. It was abandoned for a 30 years and became a popular place for ghost hunting; up until recently when it got a full renovation and is back in business again.

Lunch at the Pizza Company.

Otres Beach which is located south of Occheuteal Beach and is definitely my favorite strip to relax in. It's less developed and commercial compared to the other beaches, making it the perfect place for solace.

Uncle Dino teaching me how to do the Vietnamese "thumbs up".

Pizza Company once again before heading back to Phnom Penh.

Fruit shopping! Cambodia's soil is very rich thus making their fruits sweeter.

If you're ever traveling to Cambodia don't miss the opportunity to visit Sihanoukville as well. I'm sure it'll be worth the long drive.
